Fully Drawn Yarn (FDY) is a type of polyester filament yarn that is produced by a process called polymerization, which involves the reaction of monomers to form long polymer chains. The resulting polymer is then extruded through spinnerets to form continuous filaments, which are then stretched and oriented in a process called drawing.
In the case of FDY, the drawing process is carried out at high temperatures and high speeds, resulting in a yarn with high tenacity and low elongation. The yarn is also more uniform and has a smoother surface than other types of polyester yarns.
FDY is commonly used in a variety of textile applications, including clothing, home furnishings, and industrial fabrics. It can be further processed into textured yarns or combined with other fibers to create blended fabrics with unique properties. FDY is also used in the production of carpeting, where its strength and durability make it ideal for high-traffic areas.
FDY is available in a range of deniers (thickness) and filament counts (number of individual filaments within the yarn), which allows manufacturers to create yarns that meet specific requirements for strength, texture, and color. It can also be produced with different finishes, such as bright, dull, or semi-dull, which can affect the yarn’s appearance and texture.
